Mythical Mew Mew Power is the English adaption of Mythical Mew Mew. It was licensed by 4Kids and aired on their 4Kids 4Ever 'Girl Power' block alongside several other shows directed towards young girls, such as Winx Club and Pretty Cure.

The opening theme was "Team Up (Remix)" by Bree Sharp. An instrumental version was used for the credits.

Summary[]

Lucy Payton has a lot on her plate, homework, friends, school, boys... Oh yeah, she also has to save the world from aliens, but she's not alone, Lucy is the leader of a whole team. They'll need to put aside their differences and get along if they want to keep Earth safe.

Life isn't easy, even for a superhero.

14 year old Lucy has it all. She's pretty, popular, and her parents are super rich clothing designers. Lucy just L-O-V-E-S fashion and keeps up with all the newest trends.

16 year old Claire isn't the friendliest girl around, in fact she can be kinda mean, but her quick wit and control over water makes her a valuable member of the team.

Dana Lawson

Voiced By: Suzy Myers

14 year old Dana is a super cool skater chick who's always ready to kick alien butt. She might be a little short, but don't let that fool you, this is one gal you don't wanna mess with.

Emily Hartford

Voiced By: Amy Birnbaum

13 year old Emily Lockwood isn't just one of the sweetest girl's you'll ever meet, she's also a total brainiac who always gets straight A's on every test. 

Katie Summers

10 year old Katie is the best person to go to if you ever feel down, she knows just how to put a smile on everyone's face, she even smiles when getting in trouble for her little experiments.

Mia Miller

17 year old Mia is a super chill girl, she doesn't worry about anything...Well, other than delicious food and her favorite superhero comics of course.

The first Cyniclon to arrive on Earth. An extraterrestrial gal with a mean streak longer than the equator. Often sporting a large grin, Niav finds it fun to push everyone's buttons.

The second Cyniclon to arrive on Earth. You'll never catch this girl smiling, unless she's mocking her opponents, that is. Cidica is the muscle of the team.

Owned by Evelyn Grayson, Café Étoile acts as a cover for the Mew Project. Lucy Payton, Claire Miller, Dana Lawson, Emily Hartford, Katie Summers, and Mia Miller all work there.

Beacon Academy[]

A prestigious private school for children belonging to rich families. Lucy Payton, Alexa Marsh, Minnie Smith and Serena Anderson attend this school.

Oak Wood High School[]

Oak Wood High is a high school best known for its swimming team. Claire Miller and Emily Hartford attend this school.

Sunrise High School[]

Sunrise High is a below-average high school. Dana Lawson attends this school.

Westside Elementary School[]

Westside Middle School is attended by Katie Summers.

South Grove High School[]

South Grove High is an international school. Mia Miller, Ashley Summers, and Jasmine Yang attend this school.

Alien Homeworld[]

The home planet of Niav, Cidica and Letha. Up until just 10 years ago it was plagued with constant sandstorms and covered with arid deserts.

Edits[]

Though the censorship was less extreme than 4Kids’ previous franchises, Mythical Mew Mew Power was still subject to multiple changes in order to make the show more marketable for American children.

Japanese[]

  • Any Japanese writing is either changed to English or just completely edited out.
  • References to Japanese culture are changed in order to appeal towards the target audience. (Ex. Soba noodles become spaghetti, chopsticks are replaced with silverware)

Violence[]

  • While minor injuries, such as small scrapes and bruises, are kept in more violent scenes were edited or cut.

Dialogue[]

  • Emily's crush on Claire is changed to admiration.
  • Threats made between Dana and Claire are toned down or removed.
  • Lucy's feelings towards Serena are edited to seem platonic.
  • Ichijiku's attraction to girls is completely removed.
  • Puns and teenage slang is added.

Cut Scenes[]

  • Any romantic scenes between Lucy and Serena that can't be portrayed as platonic are completely cut.

Reception[]

Mythical Mew Mew Power received mixed reviews. Younger viewers enjoyed the comedy, plot and characters, while older viewers and fans of the original Mythical Mew Mew were angered by all the changes. Parents were concerned about their children mimicking some of the characters' more undesireable traits.
